Run for a Dream ~ 5K Run/Walk
(Sunday, April 6th 2008)
Over hundred, young women and men
braved the cold weather and participated in the first annual 5K
Run/Walk event organized by Lend-A-Hand India at Riverside Park
in the New York City on the April 6th 2008.
The 5K Run/Walk was organized to mark the launch of 2008 "Run for
a Dream" marathon training session. In the men's group, Michael
Grove clocked the best time (20.05) with Janet Sarver
(20.16) winning among the Women's group. Lisa Wong won the
prize for top fund raiser.
The event was generously supported by Brigitte Davison, financial
planner and advisor, Ameriprise Financial.
100% of net proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk go directly towards LAHI
projects.
LAHI is a nonprofit that works to improve the lives of poor youth
by providing better access to education, vocational training, career
development, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Within four years,
LAHI has implemented programs in 1,800 schools, reaching over 3,000
students.
Current projects include:
Plan 100: Launch vocational training in 100 schools impacting
over 20,000 youth
Project Catalyst: Equip youth from low income communities
to work as catalysts, establish their own community development
programs and address issues such as adult literacy and women empowerment
Project Disha: Deliver career guidance to rural youth (usually
only available in urban areas) to help participants make appropriate
choices about their future.
Bridge Loan Fund: Provide capital and mentorship support
to entrepreneurs to encourage candidates to launch their businesses
which open up new apprentice and employment opportunities in rural
communities.

LAHI has also successfully fundraised over $50,000 through our Run
