South Asian Gala 2006, New York (September 30, 2006)
The First Annual "South Asian Gala" organized by Lend-A-Hand India was held on Saturday, September 30th at Light House International in Manhattan, New York. Over 150 people from all walks of life attended the event which was full of fun, food and music. The funds raised will go towards setting up a rural vocational training center which will benefit over 200 high-school children every year. (Scroll down for the photographs from the Gala)

Mr. Vik Atal, Chairman and CEO of Citi Cards NA, and member of the advisory board of Lend-A-Hand India, delivered the opening remarks welcoming the attendees and recounting how the cause of social development has come a long way in India as well as in USA. The program was compeered by Pooja Kumar, Miss India USA and a New York City based actress and producer.

Among the performers were, Divya Nayar (Bharrat Natyam), Indian Fusion dances by Nina Bhanti's Group, Stand-up Comedy by Devanshi Patel, and Kathak performance by Pooja herself. Heartbeats Group provided great backdrop of Bollywood music.

The attendees also participated in the silent auction with contributions made possible from the following:

- Keepa Maskey (Art work in Mixed Media on Nepali Rice paper)
- Lee Gimpel (photographs from from an enchanting collection "Passing Through India")
- Ashwini & Sun, Leela Lounge (Dinner for two at Leela Lounge)
- Nicole Xian (Two tickets to a performance at the New York Metropolitan Opera)
- Nikhil Kamkolkar (Orignal sound track for the movie “Indian Cowboy”)
- Wallace Falls Park Log House (a weekend stay at Wallace Falls Log house)
- Pooja Gupta (Hand embroidered (Kundan work) Salwar Khamis with beautiful dupatta)
- Pooja Kumar (Beautiful handmade Indian shoes)

The Mechbull - "mechanical bull" - is a mini-tractor designed by a 15-year-old student of Vigyan Ashram. It is smaller and cheaper than conventional tractors, that many farmers in this rural area simply cannot afford.
