"Run for a Dream" - Marathon/Half
Marathon Training Program launched (Saturday - April 14, 2007)
40 young women and men, who form a Run for a Dream team
2007 of Lend-A-Hand India, started their marathon training practice
on Saturday, April 14th 2007 at Central Park in Manhattan. Vik Atal,
CEO of Citi Cards and Nandita Atal kicked off the program with welcome
speech to the runners who braved the freezing cold weather. It's
still not too late to join the program. Write to charu<at>lend-a-hand-india.org

The program will include professional and customized coaching, fundraising
support, and other guidance (buying shoes, cross training etc) and
of course, other team members to train and socialize with throughout
the entire process. In return, the participants achieve a goal that
many think is unachievable, meet friends along the way, AND most
of all, help Lend-A-Hand India's mission to make a difference in
the lives of the poor by raising funds through sponsorships for
the marathon run.
Each runner has pledged support to Lend-A-Hand India and will raise
funds for its flagship Project 'PLAN100'. Plan 100 aims at launching
basic rural technology centers in 100 high schools in India to provide
job and life skills to 20,000 young girls and boys by 2008.
Mr. John Trifoi, a master runner and RRCA certified trainer will
be their coach for the next four months. The group will do its weekly
practice runs under his guidance. Charu Chaturvedi, a Lend-A-Hand
India volunteer is a director of the Run for a Dream initiative
and Ivy Tseng, John Kerner, Leslie Hueter-Kerner and Minkyung Kim
will act as running mentors for the runners.
